Who We Are

It all started when...

The heart of the Southwest District Mission Program, Inc. (known in Cuba as “Christ for Cuba”)  was birthed from a trip made nearly 20 years ago when President and Founder Dan Christopherson and his wife Janet traveled to Cuba for the first time. A truly lasting impression was made, and this started Christopherson’s leap-of-faith journey into the Cuban mission field. Serving in multiple leadership positions, Christopherson began to do something different. He built relationships and went where others were not willing to go. Ultimately, God showed Christopherson what he needed to do, and the Southwest District Mission Program officially began as a 501 (c) (3) Non-for-Profit Organizationin in 2013.

Non-denominational and focused on serving all Cuban people, the program not only provides supplies and resources, it also goes to Cuba at least monthly to directly assist, assess the needs, and experience life with the Cuban people.

Through much determination and many blessings, the program has grown, but the core principles remain the same: Changing lives, one at a time.

By the grace of God and your assistance, in 2026, the Southwest District Mission Program officially reached its goal to have served people in every single province in Cuba. The best part about this is that we know them all by name. We know their story; we know their needs. We’ve felt their heart. We’ve even held their babies and held the hands of their elders. We’re here – and there – to help, even when it’s challenging.

So are the challenges great in Cuba? Yes. But with your assistance and contributions, we can give our Cuban brothers and sisters – and the next generation – opportunities for a better future.
